Greek Power Utility DEDDIE Officials Arrested Over Crete Fires

In Chania, a senior manager of the Public Power Corporation (DEDDIE) was taken into custody for allegedly causing a fire in the Sfakia area of Crete after investigators linked a cut power cable to the blaze. He was presented before a prosecutor and released pending further legal action.

In Rethymno, a 52‑year‑old DEDDIE network maintenance inspector accused of starting a fire in the village of Krya Vrysi was also brought before a court. After a three‑hour hearing, the judge and prosecutor ordered his release under restrictive conditions, including a travel ban, monthly police check‑ins and a €5,000 guarantee. DEDDIE employees in the courtroom applauded the outcome.
