Greek Deputy Minister announces sports infrastructure funding

Greek Deputy Minister of Sports Giannis Vroutsis has announced significant funding and commitments for sports infrastructure upgrades in both Drama and Thessaloniki.

In Drama, the Minister pledged 475,000 euros for the replacement of the turf at the Doxa Drama stadium and is considering further funding for lighting upgrades. Additionally, 95,000 euros has been allocated for the cooling system at the ‘D. Krachtidis’ Sports Center, specifically for the renovated weightlifting hall. The Municipality of Drama intends to name this hall after Stelios Kuromichelakis.

In Thessaloniki, a programmatic agreement has been signed to facilitate 11.5 million euros in works for the Kaftanzoglio National Stadium. While the funding is secured, concerns remain regarding the current poor condition of the pitch and the timing of the works, which may impact upcoming matches for clubs such as Iraklis and Atromitos.
