Greek sports infrastructure funding initiatives
Overview
Greek Deputy Minister of Sports Ioannis Vroutsis has announced several funding packages aimed at upgrading sports infrastructure across various regions.
In Serres, approximately 11.16 million euros has been secured through the Ministry of Finance’s Public Investment Program to modernize and expand the Serres Racetrack. The project intends to bring the facility up to international standards to host pan-European and world-level sporting events.
Additional commitments have been made for Drama and Thessaloniki. In Drama, 475,000 euros is pledged for turf replacement at the Doxa Drama stadium, alongside 95,000 euros for a cooling system at the ‘D. Krachtidis’ Sports Center. In Thessaloniki, a programmatic agreement facilitates 11.5 million euros in works for the Kaftanzoglio National Stadium, though concerns persist regarding the timing of these works and the current condition of the pitch.
