Greek Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos Calls for Unity on Consumer Protection Bill

Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos told parliament that the government's consumer‑protection legislation goes beyond EU guidelines and urged all parties to support the bill, warning that partisan rhetoric threatens citizens' rights. He highlighted new measures such as a code of conduct against misleading offers, the creation of an independent consumer‑protection authority, and a temporary profit‑margin cap that helped keep overall inflation low, with food inflation at 0.3% year‑on‑year.

The minister explained that, now that the war has ended, the profit‑margin cap should be lifted and a price‑freeze agreement with industry and retail should be reached for the summer months. He linked the reforms to broader economic goals, citing the creation of about 600,000 jobs, including 60,000 in industry, higher wages and increased disposable income for Greek households.
