Greek Education Union Calls for Staff and Pay Boosts for ASEP 2026 Teacher Recruitment

The Pan‑Hellenic Federation of Education Workers (POE‑ΥΠΑΙΘΑ) sent a letter to the Ministry of Education demanding immediate action on the verification of documents for the 1st and 2nd General Education (1ΓΕ/2026, 2ΓΕ/2026) recruitment cycles of the Supreme Council for Civil Personnel Selection (ASEP). The union highlighted that 130,000‑plus teacher applicants have submitted their files to the OP‑SYD system and that the deadline to rank them is set for early August—leaving less than three months for processing, far shorter than the six‑month period used in 2023.

POE‑ΥΠΑΙΘΑ warns that regional education services are severely understaffed, causing “air‑tight” working conditions and jeopardising staff’s summer leave. It requests the creation of paid verification committees in each regional education service, legal protection for officials against blame, a fair distribution of amendment requests, and compensation for officials handling the workload. The union also notes the recent increase in the application fee from €3 to €15, which does not cover verification costs.
