Greek educator Bera Lazeni urges reforms after university entrance exams

Bera Lazeni, a teacher and member of the PASOK‑KINAL Central Policy Committee, addressed the results of Greece’s Panhellenic university entrance exams. She congratulated the thousands of students who succeeded in gaining admission and also recognized those who did not succeed but continue to strive. Lazeni highlighted persistent challenges: unaffordable student housing, a labour market that often rewards connections over skills, and the limited prospects for many graduates. She argued that the success of a nation should be measured not only by admission numbers but by how many young people can live with dignity, find decent work, and contribute domestically. Calling for substantial reforms, she urged the state to modernise curricula, improve support for teachers, expand student‑housing programmes, and create a job market that rewards merit. According to Lazeni, the responsibility of the state begins not at university admission but at ensuring that graduates can build their futures within Greece.
