Greek Parliament Ethics Committee Recommends Lifting Zoe Konstantopoulou’s Immunity
The Parliamentary Ethics Committee voted to recommend the removal of parliamentary immunity for Zoe Konstantopoulou, the president of the Freedom Movement. The motion followed a criminal complaint by journalist Petros Kousoulou accusing Konstantopoulou of abusive and defamatory conduct. New Democracy members supported the recommendation, while PASOK was absent and the remaining opposition parties voted against it, with Greek Solution reserving judgment. Konstantopoulou did not attend the committee meeting.
Separately, Konstantopoulou was involved in a heated confrontation with journalist Vasiliki Polyzou in the parliamentary police cafeteria. She demanded Polyzou’s arrest, called the emergency number “100”, and recorded the incident. Polyzou, who lacked an identification document, was escorted by the police chief to the Parliamentary Police Station for verification and later announced plans to file a lawsuit for illegal obstruction and unlawful video recording.
