Greece's tax authority begins €150 per‑child emergency benefit payments

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) completed the first main disbursement of the emergency child benefit on 30 June 2026. The payment covered 947 609 eligible families, benefiting 1 525 188 dependent children and amounting to €219.7 million.

The €150 one‑off amount is granted automatically, without a separate application, to Greek‑resident parents who declared their children in the 2024 tax return and meet income thresholds (‑ €40 000 for the first child of married/cohabiting parents, €39 000 for single‑parent families, with an additional €5 000 allowed per extra child). When children are declared by both parents, the benefit is split equally (75 € per parent).

AADE identified about 33 351 cases where payments failed or were reduced because of missing or incorrect IBAN details, inconsistencies in child data, unmet income criteria, or children born in 2025‑2026. Affected families are being notified to correct their information and will receive the entitlement in a subsequent round.

A supplementary payment for children born between 1 January 2025 and 31 July 2026 will be processed by 31 August 2026, provided the necessary tax‑identification numbers are issued. The benefit is tax‑free, non‑seizable and does not offset other public debts.
