Greek food regulator recalls French Petit Brie cheese over Staphylococcus aureus toxin

The Greek Food Authority (EFET) has issued an immediate recall of the French soft cheese “Petit Brie” (brand “Ile de France”) after laboratory testing detected enterotoxins produced by Staphylococcus aureus. The product, packaged in 125 g units, bears batch number S26097F2X2 and a best‑before date of 06/06/2027. EFET received the alert through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) and confirmed the presence of the toxin in the cheese.

The cheese was imported into Greece by Eurofood Quality S.A. and distributed to various retail outlets. EFET advises consumers who have purchased the affected batch not to consume the cheese and to return it to the point of sale or follow the recall instructions. Staphylococcus aureus enterotoxin can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea, and in severe cases may lead to skin infections, pneumonia or bloodstream infections.
