Greek food safety agency recalls smoked carp fillet over Listeria contamination

The Hellenic Food Authority (EFET) carried out an emergency inspection after being notified by the National Public Health Organization (EODY) of a listeriosis outbreak. Sampling of a smoked carp fillet product marketed under the brand “frésco” revealed the presence of the pathogenic bacterium Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected batch was produced on 16 April 2026 and bears a use‑by date of 14 August 2026. It was manufactured by the firm G. Panagiotopoulos I. Bakatsias O.E. Fish Processing. EFET ordered the immediate withdrawal of the entire lot and urged consumers who have purchased the product not to consume it. Follow‑up inspections are being conducted in collaboration with EFET’s regional units in Western Greece and the Urgent Agricultural and Veterinary Department of the Eurytania region.

The recall is part of a broader epidemiological investigation into the source of the listeriosis cases.
