Greek government allocates €15 m for water upgrades in North Jumeirky and islands

The municipality of North Jumeirky received a new grant of €883,650 to replace aging water networks in the communities of Elliniko (€633,650) and Monolithi (€250,000). The funding, secured under the Ministry of Interior’s “Antonis Tritsis” program, adds to earlier allocations—including €750,000 for other localities—bringing the total budget for the water‑infrastructure upgrade project to over €4.9 million. Mayor Nikos Vaitsi highlighted the aim of modernising supply, reducing leaks and ensuring reliable drinking water.

In a separate ceremony at the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the government approved financing of more than €15 million for ten water‑supply and desalination projects across nine island municipalities. The projects cover network repairs, new reservoirs, and the installation of desalination and water‑treatment units on islands such as Naxos, Amorgos, Rhodes, Leros, Skyros, Zakynthos, and Viannos. Ministers Stavros Papastavrou, Vasilis Kikilias and regional officials attended the signing, noting the measures support the national water‑management strategy and address acute water‑scarcity on the islands.
