Greek Government Announces Over €1 Trillion Support Package at Thessaloniki Fair

Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis told Greek TV that the fiscal stimulus to be presented at this year’s Thessaloniki International Fair will exceed €1 trillion, with the final amount to be approved by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis based on the available fiscal space. The package is aimed at improving public finances, boosting employment and growth, and tightening tax‑evasion controls. Marinakis said the measures are still being drafted and the exact distribution of funds will be decided later. He also criticised the opposition (PASOK) for proposing costly pension and wage schemes, notably the 13th pension pension, estimating its yearly cost at about €2.5 trillion. The spokesperson highlighted that Greece’s investment ratio has risen from 10 % to roughly 17‑18 % of GDP and exports have doubled, providing the state with greater capacity to address an emerging fiscal challenge.
