Greece widens housing renovation subsidy eligibility for closed homes

The Greek government has adopted a joint ministerial decision that expands the eligibility criteria for the “Renovation of Housing” (Ανακαίνιση Κατοικίας) program under the 2021‑2027 ESFA fund (500 million EUR). The minimum ownership share for closed‑house owners is reduced from 50 % to 20 %, and the upper electricity‑consumption limit for such unoccupied properties is doubled to 100 kWh for the years 2024‑2025. Application deadlines are extended to 31 August 2026 for closed homes (and 31 July 2026 for open homes). To date more than 61 000 eligibility certificates have been issued and the platform has over 250 000 registered users.

In a related move, the ministries of Environment and Energy and of National Economy have prolonged the completion deadline for selected beneficiaries of the “Exokonomó 2025” energy‑saving scheme to 30 November 2026, allowing those projects that have already received advance payments to finish their works. The extension applies to specific categories of participants under the broader housing‑energy renovation strategy.
