Greek government disburses €617 million in farm subsidies to over 1.1 million farmers

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) sent payment orders for the June 2026 agricultural aid package, totaling €617 468 049.80 and covering 1 142 948 beneficiaries (529 494 unique tax IDs). The payments exceed the original plan by about €101 million; the total amount paid for Pillar I in May and June reached €802.4 million instead of the scheduled €701.3 million. The increase is attributed to tight cooperation between the General Secretariat for European Funds and Infrastructure (GGEFY) of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food and AADE, fully exploiting the EU funding framework.

The disbursement includes basic income support, supplementary redistributive aid, young‑farmer assistance, linked plant‑ and animal‑production subsidies, eco‑schemes and special support for cotton growers and the small islands. For the first time a horizontal increase of up to 15 % was applied to the Basic Income Support. After these payments, the total aid delivered to Greek farmers since the start of 2026 exceeds €1.061 billion, already surpassing the target for the first half‑year.

Minister of Rural Development and Food Maragkitos Schnars said the payment “confirms the government’s commitment to Greek farmers, with transparency, strict controls and full use of every available EU resource.” AADE director Giorgos Pitsilis added that the system ensures that money reaches the genuine producers.
