Greek government launches 150‑euro child allowance for 950,000 families
The Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family announced that payments of the emergency 150‑euro allowance per child have begun for 950,000 Greek families, with most recipients seeing the money in their accounts today. Families with children born in 2025 or later are excluded until a tax identification number is issued, after which they will receive the grant in August.
Minister Domna Michailidou said the payment "is not a panacea, but a support that can help a family manage the month a little more easily." She also reported strong demand for the "Nannies of the Neighbourhood" programme, which received about 5,000 applications from parents and 3,500 from prospective nannies, with the first 400 contracts signed.
The minister provided an update on the "Renovation of Housing" scheme, noting that 41,000 eligibility certificates have been issued—most for open‑ownership properties and roughly 1,500 for closed units. The government is considering lowering the required ownership share from 50 % to 20 % and raising the electricity‑consumption threshold for closed homes to encourage more property revitalisation.
