Greece signs €40.8 million Skaramagas Triple Interchange contract

On 13 July 2026, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended the signing of the construction contract for the Skaramagas triple interchange in Haidari’s Botanical Garden. The agreement, between the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the METKA ATE‑DΩΜΙΚΗ ΚΡΗΤΗΣ consortium, is valued at €40.8 million (including VAT) and foresees a 36‑month build.

The project will complete the Western Peripheral Avenue of Iagleo and create three grade‑separated interchanges at Skaramagas, Schistou and the Shipyards, linking the network to the Athens‑Corinth highway. It targets the daily flow of about 100 000 vehicles – roughly 20 000 heavy trucks – that currently cause severe congestion. Simulations predict the average speed will rise from 28 km/h to 47 km/h, delivering an estimated €10 million annual economic benefit and improving access to the Piraeus port and the Aspropyrgos logistics hub. The work will be toll‑free and includes storm‑water collection upgrades.

Minister of Infrastructure Christos Dimas emphasised that “the project comes to address one of the most significant traffic problems in Attica,” while Mitsotakis noted that “there is no magical solution for Attica’s traffic,” underscoring the government’s broader infrastructure strategy.
