Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis' Hospital Renovation Collapses in Corinth
A section of the ceiling in the newly renovated Emergency Department (TEP) of the General Hospital of Corinth collapsed just days after the inauguration by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis. The incident injured a doctor and a nurse with minor injuries. Georgiadis blamed the staff, saying they pulled a curtain that tore the pseudo‑ceiling, and asserted that the building is new and sturdy. Union representatives, including Giannis Frysuras, condemned the collapse as evidence of neglect, under‑funding and unsafe construction, stating that “the reality fell from the ceiling.” The event has sparked criticism of the renovation project and raised concerns about construction quality and hospital safety.
The Ministry of Health’s press release had highlighted a near‑doubling of the hospital’s budget and presented the renovation as a major modernization, but the collapse has called that narrative into question.
