Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis inaugurates upgraded emergency departments on Kalymnos and Kos

Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis visited the General Hospital of Kalymnos (Center "To Voubaleio") to open a newly renovated Emergency Department. The project, worth €847,407, was part of the South Aegean ESFA 2021‑2027 programme and expanded the department to about 300 m² with modern equipment and improved patient safety. The ceremony was attended by senior health officials, local MPs, the Minister of Shipping Vassilis Kikilias, the mayor of Kalymnos and other dignitaries.

During a separate visit to the General Hospital of Kos, Georgiadis was recorded in a brief exchange with a staff member who asked why he did not visit the wards. The minister responded by asking for specifics, after which the employee replied “many”. The event coincided with the hand‑over of a new ultrasound machine donated by the AHEPA department of Kos and the local Volunteer Blood Donors Association. Georgiadis said the government is working to create “the best NHS of all times” and is coordinating actions with the Medical Association and regional authorities to address chronic problems at the hospital.
