Greek Health Minister Says Freedom Movement Candidate Set Fire in Corinthia

On June 29, 2026 a 57‑year‑old woman who was a candidate for the Freedom Movement (Πλεύση Ελευθερίας) allegedly ignited dry grass near a forest in Corinthia, Greece. Health Minister Adonis Georgiades posted on social media that the woman "stopped in a frenzy, lit matches and set fire to the dry grass" while walking her dog, describing the act as the result of a mental illness and calling her "toxic" and a threat to the Republic. He added that she "wants to burn Greece to hurt the government" and pledged that "we will win them again and keep Greece on the road of logic."

Authorities began an on‑site investigation, tracing the blaze to the woman’s use of a naked flame, confirming that her actions caused the fire on the dry vegetation.
