Greek Interior Minister Ioannou Rejects Partition as Solution for Cyprus

Greek Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou addressed an event in Serres commemorating the fallen of 1974, stating that Greece will not compromise with the “fait accompli of the occupation” and will not accept a partitioned Cyprus. He described the continued division as an “open wound” for Greek Cypriots, noting that 52 years after the Turkish invasion refugees still cannot return to their homes and many remain missing.

Ioannou highlighted the long‑standing support of Greece and other European countries, pointing to the recent deployment of a Greek frigate to Cyprus as both a symbolic and practical contribution to defending Cypriot Hellenism and enhancing the island’s defence capabilities.
