Greek islands Lefkada and Leros granted multi‑million euro funding for storm damage repairs
The Ministry of National Economy and Finance approved €2 million for the municipality of Lefkada to restore infrastructure damaged by recent hailstorms under the Special Programme for Natural Disaster Response 2026‑2030. The funding will target repairs in the municipal units of Lefkada, Ellomeno and Apollonia, aiming to reinforce resilience against future extreme weather events.
Separately, the Ministry of Migration and Asylum allocated €5,961,270 to the municipality of Leros for major infrastructure projects, including road network upgrades (€2.457 million), playground improvements (€655,200), installation of autonomous water‑dispensing kiosks (€290,340), solar‑powered lighting (€2.507 million), and the purchase of a 4×4 light truck for the water department (€51,420). Both packages are part of Greece's broader effort to strengthen local services and preparedness after recent natural‑disaster impacts.
