Greek labor union condemns prosecution of agricultural protesters
The Syndicato Protoporia (Private Employees Union of Pieria) has issued a statement condemning the prosecution of farmers, livestock breeders, and workers who supported recent agricultural protests in Greece.
The union accuses the New Democracy government of using intimidation and criminalization tactics following its failure to break nationwide agricultural blockades. Specifically, the union highlights the prosecution of labor activists and unionists who expressed solidarity with farmers fighting against European Union policies.
Among those targeted is the president of the Pieria Private Employees Union, who stood in support of the agricultural movement. The union has called for the immediate withdrawal of all prosecutions and demanded that the government address the OPEKEPE scandal instead. A nationwide rally is scheduled for September 5 in Thessaloniki to respond to these developments.
