Labor unions call for mass rally in Thessaloniki on September 5

Labor unions and the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) are organizing a large-scale panhellenic rally in Thessaloniki on Saturday, September 5, coinciding with the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF). The demonstration is scheduled for 17:30 at Xanthi Square.

Various labor organizations, including the Labor Centers of Pella and Piraeus, have called for mass participation to protest against the current economic climate. Key demands include higher wages, collective bargaining agreements, protection against the cost of living, affordable housing, and improved funding for healthcare and education.

Dimitris Koutsoumpas, General Secretary of the KKE, will participate in the rally and is scheduled to deliver a central speech at the Vellidio Conference Center on September 10. The KKE is positioning this mobilization as a significant start to the new political period, criticizing government policies that prioritize corporate profits and military spending over social needs.
