Greek Left Coalition criticizes government on crime and Lesvos livestock crisis

The Greek Left Coalition (EL. A. S.) has issued sharp criticisms against the government regarding two distinct issues: organized crime management and the livestock crisis in Lesvos.

Regarding organized crime, the Citizen Protection sector of EL. A. S. criticized the government for prioritizing “communication shows” over substantive action. While the Minister of Citizen Protection highlighted the effectiveness of the Organized Crime Combatting Directorate—noting the dismantling of over 270 criminal organizations in two years—EL. A. S. demanded specific data on the resolution of serious crimes, such as contract killings and settling of accounts, to move beyond political celebrations.

In Lesvos, the Agricultural Development sector of EL. A. S. accused the government of “5.5 months of inertia” in managing the effects of foot-and-mouth disease. The coalition stated that the island's livestock industry is at a breaking point, citing the economic and psychological exhaustion of farmers. They called for immediate interventions, including the full operation of all local slaughterhouses, compensation for losses, and a binding operational plan to manage approximately 60,000 sheep and goats affected by the crisis.
