Greek livestock farmers face crisis amid delayed government aid

PASOK-KINAL MP Evangelia Liakouli has criticized the Greek government for failing to fulfill commitments to the livestock sector. She highlighted that seven months after the Prime Minister promised 'de minimis' aid to cover animal feed costs resulting from mandatory animal confinement, the necessary official decree has not been issued.

Liakouli noted that farmers in Thessaly and across the country are bearing the financial burden of these delays. Furthermore, she raised concerns regarding producers who lost livestock due to disease outbreaks and may now risk losing their basic subsidies. In Lesvos, she reported that the government is deploying the military to manage African Swine Fever instead of increasing veterinary and public services.

The opposition lawmaker has called for an immediate parliamentary committee discussion regarding the reconstruction of herds, accusing the administration of making promises that ultimately shift costs onto producers.
