Greek market authority fines firms €295,898 for unfair profits and counterfeit goods

The Independent Authority for Market and Consumer Protection in Greece imposed administrative fines totaling €295,898 after a series of inspections aimed at curbing excessive profit margins, misleading discount announcements and the trade of counterfeit products.

The penalties include €119,648 for profit‑margin breaches, a €78,958 fine on Flora Food for six butter product codes, €24,257 on a chocolate distributor and €16,433 on a dairy company. Consumer complaints prompted checks at ten retail outlets in central Athens, resulting in €50,000 of fines. An electronic price‑monitoring tool identified violations at three online stores, leading to €45,000 in penalties. In a separate operation, authorities seized and destroyed 6,105 packages (over 89,000 items) of counterfeit merchandise, including accessories for the FIFA World Cup 2026, imposing an €81,250 fine.

The authority stressed that it will continue to use citizen reports, price‑data analysis and targeted inspections to protect consumers and maintain healthy competition in the market.
