Greek Minister Emphasizes Islands as Key to Nation’s Future

The Greek Minister of National Economy and Finance, together with Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakas, attended a joint initiative of the four island regions. They argued that Greece’s long‑term development hinges on a comprehensive national vision for the islands, linking them to the country’s productive model, geopolitical strength, social cohesion and demographic outlook.

The discussion called for moving beyond isolated measures toward an integrated strategy that ties infrastructure, digital transformation, green and blue‑economy initiatives, and innovation to create quality jobs. A proposal was also presented to constitutionally reinforce the principle of island‑centric policy, reflecting its importance for energy transition, security and Greece’s position in the Eastern Mediterranean.
