Greek Minister Inspects Kalamaría Road Project Ahead of Metro Extension

Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas and Deputy Minister Nikos Tachiaos visited the Aretous station in Thessaloniki to review progress on the Pontou road works that will link the upcoming Kalamaría metro extension. They said the road, a 40‑metre wide arterial route, is essential for the functionality of the new metro stations and the city’s traffic flow, and that the extension is scheduled for delivery in August.

The Kalamaría municipality announced that the construction contract for the Pontou road was awarded to the firm Aktor, with a budget of €24.6 million. The project includes the road, a bicycle lane, modern traffic nodes and related land‑expropriations, and is tied to the final certification steps required before the metro line can open to the public.
