Greek Ministry launches €4 million funding call for aquaculture spatial planning

The Ministry of Rural Development and Food announced a €4 million public funding invitation for the "Integrated Spatial Planning for Aquaculture" action (2.1.3) under the 2021‑2027 PALYTH programme. The co‑financed call targets bodies managing Organized Development Areas for Aquaculture (POAU) and aims to support the implementation of specialised spatial plans, water‑environment monitoring, necessary studies, operational costs, environmental protection, upgrades and community outreach.

The public share covers 50 % of eligible budgets, with the remaining 50 % to be supplied by private partners. Proposals must be submitted by 29 December 2028 and completed by 31 December 2029. Secretary General Spyros Protopsaltis said the sector "is a dynamic productive branch, contributing to export, employment and regional development," and that the funding will help make Greek aquaculture "competitive, sustainable and better integrated into the marine space". The action falls under Priority 2 of PALYTH, which promotes sustainable aquaculture activities and sector competitiveness while ensuring long‑term environmental viability.
