Greek Ministry launches PosoKanei platform to curb price gouging

The Ministry of Development in Greece is introducing a new digital platform called PosoKanei, which will replace the existing e‑katanalotis system. The service will provide consumers with real‑time price information, product comparisons and alerts on the most‑sold items, using artificial intelligence and data‑analysis tools to detect unfair commercial practices.

A contract worth about €9,300 (plus VAT) has been awarded to Circana Hellas for supplying a database of the top 10,000 SKUs to the Independent Authority for Market Control and Consumer Protection. The initiative is funded with a public spending allocation of €4.6 million under the 2026‑2030 development plan and aims to create a unified, AI‑driven oversight mechanism for faster, evidence‑based market inspections and fines that have already reached millions of euros.

The programme, signed by Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos, is positioned as a “serious institutional reform” intended to bring Greece’s market surveillance in line with advanced EU standards.
