Greek Ministry of Education Announces 2026‑27 Kindergarten Enrollment Process

The Ministry of Education has issued circulars for the 2026‑2027 school year, setting the online registration period for public kindergartens from 2 to 23 March 2026. Parents must apply through the Digital Governance portal, selecting a school based on residence, and provide proof of address, health documents and, where applicable, evidence of disabilities. Optional programs include a full‑day schedule, an early‑arrival slot (7:45‑8:00) requiring a minimum of five children, and an enhanced full‑day option.

Teachers’ unions and education advocates have criticised the policy, stating that no conditions should limit access to the full‑day programme. They argue the ministry has not ensured sufficient teaching staff or substitute teachers, risking programme interruptions. The protests also condemn the diversion of EU recovery funds toward defence spending and call for permanent hiring to protect students’ educational rights.
