Greek Ministry of Education approves seven private university branch licences for 2026‑27

The Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports granted seven licences for the establishment and operation of non‑state university branches (Legal Entity of University Education) for the 2026‑2027 academic year. The licences were issued after an assessment by the National Authority for Higher Education (ΕΘΑΕ) and the National Organization for Qualification Certification, with input from the Foreign Ministry for parent institutions located outside the EU.

Three re‑evaluated applications were approved: branches of Université Sorbonne Paris Nord, University of Essex and University of Derby, which will operate in Athens. Four new licences were granted to Georgetown University (Athens), Iowa State University of Science and Technology (Thessaloniki), Roger Williams University (Athens, under the name "Deree, The American University of Greece"), and the European University of Cyprus. Two applications, BCA College and City Unity College, were rejected after re‑evaluation. The next step is certification of the study programmes by ΕΘΑΕ.
