Greek Ministry of Rural Development earmarks €80 million for small‑scale irrigation projects

The Ministry of Rural Development and Food (ΥΠΑΑΤ) announced an €80 million investment to finance new small‑scale irrigation works and water‑management infrastructure across Greece. Eligible beneficiaries are regional administrations and municipalities, with a maximum grant of €2.2 million per project, including VAT. Funding comes entirely from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development together with the Greek state.

The programme targets modernising irrigation networks, installing telemetric and precision‑agriculture systems, recycling water, creating storage facilities, and artificial recharge of underground aquifers. A pre‑announcement for the call for proposals was posted on 8 July 2026 by the General Secretariat of Common Agricultural Resources and Infrastructure, inviting applications under the P3‑73‑1 intervention of the Strategic Plan for Common Agricultural Policy 2023‑2027.
