Greek MP Alexander Markogiannis seeks equal pay and insurance for social‑welfare nurses

Member of Parliament Alexander Markogiannis raised a parliamentary question to the ministers of Labour and Social Insurance, Finance, and Social Cohesion, demanding that nurses employed in social‑welfare facilities receive the same insurance classification and compensation as those working in health‑service units. He highlighted that the current separation of nurses into different “Heavy and Hazardous” categories and the denial of the dangerous‑work allowance cannot be justified by differences in specialty or duties.

Markogiannis noted recent protests over the unequal treatment and cited earlier government measures that corrected injustices arising from the fiscal‑crisis era. He asked each ministry to detail actions already taken or planned to achieve wage and insurance parity for the two groups of nurses.

“Οι διαφορές … δεν μπορούν να δικαιολογηθούν ούτε από διαφορά ειδικότητας ούτε από διαφορά καθηκόντων,” he emphasized, urging state intervention to resolve the disparity.
