Greek MP Alexandros Markogiannakis touts new income‑boosting measures in UPoIK law
During the voting on the UPoIK24 bill on 24 June 2026, MP Alexandros Markogiannakis of Chania argued that the legislation provides concrete, tangible benefits to citizens, contrasting with what he called the opposition's "promises without reciprocity". He said the bill adds an extra €800 million in the supplementary budget for measures such as a one‑off €150 benefit for each child, raising the regular pension supplement to €300, and expanding rent‑return assistance to two years' rent for health‑care and education staff. He also highlighted debt‑relief steps, including a 72‑installment plan for pre‑2024 debts, raising the protected (non‑seizable) amount to €1 650, and allowing out‑of‑court settlements for debts of €5 000 or more. Markogiannakis concluded that these actions translate fiscal surplus into immediate, lasting support for Greeks, ensuring the benefits cannot be taken away.
