Greek MP Evangelia Liakouli urges better disability access on Thessaly coasts and backs press‑freedom court ruling

Member of Parliament Evangelia Liakouli (PASOK‑Movement for Change) raised a written question in the Greek Parliament demanding answers from the Ministers of Interior (Theodoros Livanis), Tourism (Olga Kefalogianni) and Shipping & Island Policy (Vasilis Kiklitis) on the lack of accessible facilities on Thessaly’s beaches. She highlighted that previously installed wheelchair‑friendly systems have deteriorated or been stored, basic wooden pathways, accessible parking and sanitation facilities are missing, and called for the allocation and monitoring of national and EU funds, as well as a digital system to certify accessibility in real time.

Liakouli also praised a recent court decision that dismissed a lawsuit against a journalist in the wake of the wire‑tapping scandal, calling it a victory for press freedom and the rule of law. She warned against abusive SLAPP suits, referenced the EU Directive 2024/1069 on such cases, and urged stronger legal safeguards for journalists.

Both interventions reflect her focus on protecting constitutional rights and improving public services in Greece.
