SYRIZA MPs Samon Kedikoglou and Vasilis Kokkalis resign from Parliament

Samon Kedikoglou, the SYRIZA MP for Euboea, announced on 13 July that he was resigning from his parliamentary seat. He sent a letter to the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, saying the decision was “not easy, not without thought and not without personal cost” and that he was joining the ELAS movement led by Alexis Tsipras. His resignation creates a vacancy that will be filled by the next candidate on the party list, altering SYRIZA’s representation for the district.

Vasilis Kokkalis, the SYRIZA MP for Larissa, also submitted his resignation in mid‑July. He stated that the decision was “clear and conscious” and driven by recent political conditions that no longer allow him to serve effectively. Kokkalis said he will continue his political work outside parliament and urged his constituents to remain engaged. Both departures require formal replacement procedures and reduce the number of SYRIZA seats in the chamber.
