Greek officials address police infrastructure and Thessaloniki protest
In Orestiada, Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis met with representatives of the Orestiada Police Employees Union. Following a telephone consultation with Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis, Pierrakakis committed to completing the indoor shooting range at the Didymoteicho Police Academy. The project is considered a long-standing demand aimed at improving training and operational readiness for local police.
Separately, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) has condemned the government following a police intervention during an anti-fascist gathering in Thessaloniki. The KKE criticized the use of tear gas by riot police to disperse protesters who were demonstrating against an event involving convicted former Golden Dawn official Ilias Kasidiaris. The party demanded the immediate release of two individuals detained during the incident.
