Greek OPEKA launches free holiday and subsidy program for 27,500 farmers

The Organization of Social Insurance and Welfare (OPEKA), through the Agricultural Hearth Account, has introduced a comprehensive support package for 27,500 Greek farmers. The scheme, outlined by Social Cohesion and Family Minister Domna Michailidou, offers free holidays of up to 12 days on selected Aegean islands and mainland regions, subsidised spa tourism, child‑camp programmes, and scholarships for top exam candidates.

Financial assistance includes €700 for 2,300 mothers of three children and €1,000 for 600 mothers with four or more children, as well as €1,000 scholarships for 2,106 high‑scoring students. Beneficiaries also receive free books, theatre tickets, and increased funding for accommodation providers in Evros and the listed islands (Lesvos, Limnos, Ikaria, Kos, Rhodes, etc.). The programme aims to boost rural welfare and stimulate tourism in targeted areas.
