Greek Parliament President Nikitas Kaklamanis says only the speaker can enforce rules after incident with Zoe Konstantop

President of the Hellenic Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis addressed a confrontation that occurred in the parliamentary police cafeteria involving the Freedom Movement leader Zoe Konstantopoulou and journalist Vasiliki Polizou. Konstantopoulou called the emergency number 100, demanding Polizou’s arrest and alleging she was not a journalist and belonged to a criminal organization. Police chief, head of the parliamentary police unit (YAVE), asked Polizou for identification and escorted her to a patrol car for verification, confirming that the procedure was followed.

Kaklamanis emphasized that “only the president of the Parliament can give commands in the Parliament, and no one else,” and assured parliamentary clerks of full coverage and support. He said the legal dispute between Konstantopoulou and Polizou has already been taken up by the courts, and that parliamentary staff are free to move within all areas except police‑only zones.
