Greek PM Mitsotakis Announces New Electric Scooter Rules

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced new regulations for electric scooters, emphasizing child safety. The use of e‑scooters will be banned for anyone under 17, and minors will also be prohibited from purchasing or renting them.

All electric scooters must carry mandatory insurance and be entered into an electronic registry that records both the vehicle and its owner. Mitsotakis linked the measures to earlier government actions protecting minors, such as restrictions on alcohol, tobacco, social‑media use and bullying. He said, "When we talk about children, prevention and safety come first," and added, "The daily mobility has changed, but it must be safe."
