Greek police arrest two for elderly fraud scheme
Greek police have dismantled a criminal organization that targeted elderly citizens in the Nea Smyrni and Palaio Faliro areas by impersonating accountants. Two men, aged 41 and 44, were arrested in Acharnes and Ano Liosia on Friday.
The investigation revealed that the 41-year-old leader would identify elderly pedestrians and convince them to hand over cash or valuables under the false pretense of securing tax refunds or retroactive pensions. The 44-year-old accomplice provided a vehicle to assist in locating potential victims.
Authorities have confirmed at least five cases of fraud and seized an operational vehicle and three mobile phones. The suspects face charges of forming a criminal organization for the purpose of committing professional and repeated fraud.
