Greek police dismantle gang behind Martino ATM explosion

Greek authorities have dismantled an organized crime group responsible for a high-profile ATM robbery in Martino, Phthiotis. The operation, conducted by the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, resulted in the arrest of two men, aged 29 and 44, during raids in Attica and Corinthia.

Video evidence reveals the group's sophisticated methodology used in December 2023. The perpetrators used a homemade explosive device to blast an ATM located in a supermarket. Following the explosion, they utilized a stolen crane truck and steel cables to forcibly rip the cash box from its base. They then loaded the box, which contained 43,420 euros, into a stolen van and fled.

The investigation also linked the suspects to three vehicle thefts in Kifisia and Metamorfosi. During police searches, authorities seized a pistol with seven rounds, wireless transceivers, tools for forging vehicle identification numbers, and various other criminal equipment. The suspects face multiple charges, including organized crime, forgery, explosion, property damage, and robbery.
