Greek police officer arrested in anabolic steroid trafficking ring

On 9 July 2026 police carried out a raid in Attica, Greece, dismantling a criminal organisation that imported, stored, and sold anabolic steroids and other pharmaceutical preparations without licences. The operation seized 111,720 tablets, 7,985 vials of steroids, 346 vials of bacteriostatic water, small amounts of cocaine and cannabis, as well as weapons and explosives, with an estimated value of about €500,000.

Three suspects were arrested, including a serving police officer; a fourth member, a foreign national, remains at large. Authorities also charged eleven additional people for related offences, among them two more police officers and a public‑hospital doctor. The investigation, which began after a complaint in August 2025, linked the network to the World Anti‑Doping Agency’s prohibited‑substance list. After a May 2026 Europol‑led operation against counterfeit medicines, the group adjusted its methods but continued its illegal activity.
