Greek Police Record Over 2,000 Helmet Violations in Epirus During Safety Campaign

The Hellenic Police continued its "Zero Tolerance for No Helmet" campaign from 1 to 7 June 2026, conducting 19,991 checks across the country. A total of 1,983 violations were recorded, including 24 in the Epirus region. Violations involved motorcyclists, passengers, e‑bike riders and ATV drivers.

Penalties introduced by the new Road Traffic Code (Law 5209/2025) impose a €350 fine and a 30‑day driving‑license suspension for riders who fail to wear a certified helmet, the same fine for passengers, and a €30 fine for e‑bike operators. Repeat offences attract higher sanctions. The campaign aims to shift public perception and achieve universal compliance with mandatory helmet use, emphasizing safety over punishment.
