Greek police seize 1,500 cannabis plants in Messinia operation

Police in the forested Foikounta area of Messinia, Greece, uncovered a fully organized cannabis plantation covering more than 1,500 plants, some reaching 2.2 m in height. The site included a seven‑level irrigation network, a five‑ton water tank, underground structures, two makeshift shelters, five tents and a kitchen equipped with gas bottles and food supplies. Seized material also comprised 66 g of cannabis, six kilometres of irrigation tubing, agricultural tools, fertilizers and two mobile phones.

Two Albanian men, aged 32 and 27, were arrested and charged with participation in a criminal organisation engaged in drug cultivation and trafficking. Police are also searching for a 46‑year‑old Greek suspect of Foikounta origin believed to have overseen the operation. Authorities estimate the harvest could yield at least 766 kg of raw cannabis, generating illegal proceeds of €1.53‑2.30 million. The raid involved the Messinia narcotics unit together with EKAM, local police teams and support squads from neighboring jurisdictions.
