Greek politics sees ELAS secretary visit Thessaloniki and SYRIZA MP resigns

Milti Hatzigiannakis, secretary of the Greek Left Alliance (ELAS), arrived in Thessaloniki on 6 July for a series of meetings. He began with a interview on Radio Thessaloniki, then visited the Oraiokastro area to assess the aftermath of a major fire and speak with local officials and residents. Subsequent appointments included discussions with business and professional chambers and an open political event titled “Now We Speak” focused on small and medium enterprises.

On 4 July, MP George Karameros announced his resignation from the SYRIZA party and from his parliamentary seat representing East Attica. In his statement he cited alignment with his constituents and family, reaffirmed support for former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’s initiative that led to the formation of ELAS, and pledged to continue political activism as a private citizen.
