Athens ports see record 61,000+ holiday departures
On Saturday 1 August 2026, more than 61 000 passengers left the four main ports of Attica in a single day, marking the peak of the August holiday exodus. The Piraeus port operated 23 sailings carrying 29 966 travelers, the Argosaronic line ran 57 routes with 11 586 passengers, Rafina dispatched 15 sailings for 11 324 passengers and Lavrio 14 sailings for 8 976 passengers, totaling 61 852 departures.
The Greek Coast Guard and port authorities placed the ports on heightened readiness, adding traffic‑control and crowd‑management measures. Additional sailings are scheduled for the following day, and officials urge travelers to arrive early to avoid road congestion around the ports.
