Greek price‑comparison portal PosoKanei garners over 678,000 users

The government‑run platform PosoKanei (posokanei.gov.gr) lets consumers compare prices of roughly 8,000–10,000 supermarket products, view historic price charts, and check equivalents in other EU countries. Launched on 17 June, the service reports more than 678,000 visitor sessions, about 287,000 active users and over 60,000 mobile‑app downloads.

Analysts caution that the platform’s algorithmic methods are not publicly audited. They note a lack of independent verification of data‑collection processes, error rates and product‑matching criteria, raising concerns that excessive price transparency could unintentionally facilitate collusive behaviour in oligopolistic markets. The debate centres on whether the system improves consumer protection or creates new risks for accurate pricing information.
