Greek government trims gasoline price by 10 cents, diesel by 5 cents

The Greek cabinet reached an agreement with the two domestic refiners HELLENiQ Energy and Motor Oil to lower the retail price of regular gasoline by €0.10 per litre and diesel by €0.05 per litre. The refiners will contribute a total of €40 million, with each providing €20 million, to fund the price cut without adding to the state budget. The measure took effect on 14 July 2026 and will remain in force until the end of August 2026.

Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Chatzidakis announced the reduction, noting that “the step is aimed at easing the burden on households and at supporting political stability and autonomy ahead of the next elections.” The discount is applied to the price at which refiners sell fuel to wholesale traders, and the reduced price is expected to bring gasoline to about €1.88 per litre and diesel to about €1.80 per litre, although final pump prices will depend on international oil market movements and the speed at which stations receive the newly priced fuel.

Industry representatives warned that ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Gulf and supply constraints could limit the immediate benefit for consumers, and that further price rises may offset part of the discount.
